Caitlin Dickerson, New York Time journalist, spoke about immigration history, policy, and identity. Separating families who come into the United States illegally has been a something that has been going on for years, even under the Obama administration. What makes this different are the number of people fleeing their home and why. Many in Latin America and Central America are suffering from violence, cartels, stagflation, lack of resources and many more. No family will stay somewhere that has little too provide them if there are means for a better life. The problem seems far worse when they attempt to cross the border. Not only are families separated, but some never see each other again. Ms. Dickerson spoke of a mother seeking her child, a mother who was from a small country in Europe. The media tends to forget that other parts of the world travel the distance for a better life. This mother was sent back to her country, but her child was already separated from her. It took months to find him and by the time they were reunited he went from a baby to a toddler. He was one of the lucky ones who were sent to live with a family who took him in. There are children who sleep on flat surfaces without proper beds, pillows and blankets. Children who do not recognize their parents if they are reunited, children who wish they could see their parents.
