I remember learning in my environmental course that food waste can be seen as a greenhouse emission and if it was a gas it would be ranked third. About 40% of food that is grown or bought in the United States is never eaten. When someone throws food or wrappers on the floor such as while at the beach they not only harm the sea creatures, but the ocean with increase in waste in the water, the water that the earth relies on to live. You see food waste is just one of the problem affecting our ecosystem, we have plastic, plastic and metals in the ocean, high carbon emission and global warming. The little things we do have an affect on our everyday life. If we want to enjoy the world then we must make changes. We have to become educated, we have to tell people to pick up their trash and put their water bottle in the recycling bin. Sustainability is the ability to maintain at a certain rate and this focus group was about thinking of ways we can promote sustainability on campus. It was as easy as picking up trash and joining a Reddit group on environmental sustainability. I would advice everyone to participate in a focus group because sometimes we do not realize how much we do for the earth and how much we can improve.
